An orphaned moose calf comes to live on the farm of retired lumberjack Jean du Bois. As Muskeg grows, he shows no interest in returning to the forest where he belongs. Then Jean faces a big problem when Kate, his faithful workhorse, has grown too old to pull the farm equipment. There is no way Jean can harvest enough hay and grain to feed Kate, the cow, and huge, hungry Muskeg, too. It looks like Jean may have to give up his farm—until his grandson, Ti’Jean, comes up with an idea that just might solve their problem . . .
